SUMMARY

Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc. (HHS) is seeking a full-time, experienced and exceptional Director for the Division of General Internal Medicine.

The Division Director will report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine and will oversee 33 physicians and 20 advanced practice providers (APPs) working in both hospital-based and outpatient clinics.

Division Director will be responsible for:

• Providing a patient-centered environment
• Being the leading teacher in patient care and quality improvement
• Cultivating an environment that nurtures and rewards lifelong learning
• Collaborating with colleagues and the healthcare system to attain the best outcomes for patients
• Managing a seamless integration of physicians and APP’s as one team
• Overseeing clinical, quality, and financial performance of the Division of General Internal Medicine
• Nurturing an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration with clinical and administrative partners in the delivery of care

The Division Director will:

• Represent the division in coordination with the Department Chair to internal and external stakeholders
• Provide administration and oversight of the division’s financial operations and budgets
• Provide administration and oversight of schedule to ensure adequate provider coverage of the general medicine clinics
• Provide leadership and guidance in provider and staff recruitment and support access, equity, and diversity
• Provide education and training to residents, students, APPs, and staff and builds a culture of scholarship in the division
• Have their own robust primary care practice and inpatient attending duties (if applicable)
• Build outpatient primary care business lines with other specialties
• Work collaboratively with Hospital Medicine, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Surgical specialties, and others to ensure quality and timely transitions of care

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess, or be eligible for, a valid license to practice Medicine in the State of Minnesota
• Board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine with preference given to those with additional training such as MPH or MBA degrees
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience post-training with evidence of progressive management responsibilities and leadership in an academic department; less than 5 years of progressive management will be considered based on applicant’s skill set and accomplishments
• Experience with medical homes, population health, quality and safety, public health and health equity
• Eligible for appropriate academic appointment at the University of Minnesota

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Ability to demonstrate require leadership and administrative skills
• Capable of overseeing undergraduate and graduate medical education in internal medicine
• Committed to quality and compassionate patient care
• Ability to oversee the growth of quality, patient outcomes, and clinical research
