Every so often, I come across a healthcare leadership event with an agenda that makes me think immediately of the PLC Network community. Rewiring Healthcare: Foundation to Future, taking place October 20–21 in Nashville, is one of those events.

Physicians are increasingly being asked not only to provide excellent clinical care, but also to lead teams, shape culture, improve performance, and help their organizations navigate what comes next. This conference is designed to provide practical, workable strategies to help you meet that challenge.

Here are four compelling reasons to attend:

  1. Tap the leadership potential of your APCs. Don Taylor, my partner in developing From Healer to Leader: The Path to Physician Leadership, will lead a breakout on Developing and Engaging Advanced Practice Clinicians. He and a group of APC leaders will share practical ways to develop APCs as leaders and strengthen physician-APC partnerships.
  2. Make sure physicians have a seat at the leader development table. Dr. Erin Rains will share a healthcare partner perspective in Physicians as Leaders: Why Inclusion in Leader Development Matters. She’ll explore why physicians should be intentionally included in leader development and how this influences culture, performance, and organizational priorities.
  3. Embrace what’s next without losing what matters most. Dr. Thom Mayer, medical director for the NFL Players Association, will present on Leading Healthcare Into the Future: Creating a More Personalized Patient Experience. He’ll look at how innovation and more personalized care can move healthcare forward while keeping human connection at the center.
  4. Trust can make or break a team. Learn how to protect it. Dr. Gerald Hickson, founding director of Vanderbilt Health’s Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy, will speak on Professionalism and Trust in Healthcare. He’ll explore the behaviors that build or erode trust and how leaders can strengthen accountability, respect, and teamwork.

This is a great opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and think more intentionally about the leadership challenges ahead. Plus, there’s something to be said for getting together with smart people who care about the same things you do (and having some fun along the way).

These are just four highlights from a packed agenda, which also includes:

  • Taking a more precise, individualized approach to developing leaders
  • Exploring the Human Capital Ecosystem™ and the six factors that help people engage, thrive, and stay
  • Making work more doable by improving operational effectiveness
