At the Physician Leadership Career Network, we’re not SEO consultants—but we’ve learned a lot through years of running a physician-focused job board. Below are practical, easy-to-implement tips to improve your job post visibility and search rankings.

Use Relevant Keywords

Keywords are the backbone of SEO. They help Google understand what your job is about—and match it to what physicians are searching for.

  • Use the exact terms physicians search for: Specialty, Title, and Location (e.g., Cardiology Medical Director, Chicago IL).

  • Include these keywords:

    • In the job title

    • Within the first one or two sentences of the job description

    • Repeated naturally throughout the post

  • Ensure the job title and the description keywords match exactly—this improves consistency and ranking.

Get Specific with Location

Google prioritizes jobs that list a clear, specific location.

  • Use the full street address, including city, state and zip code, in the location field.

  • If your platform includes geolocation, confirm the full address populates.

  • Don’t just list “Midwest” or “Remote”—specificity helps your ranking and candidate targeting.

Optimize Titles and URLs

Your job title becomes part of your page’s URL—make it count.

  • Keep titles short, descriptive, and keyword-focused
  • Avoid overly long or salesy titles like:

    • “XYZ Organization has an exciting leadership opportunity for an Oncology expert in the best four-season location in the U.S.”

    • Instead, opt for:

      • “Oncology Section Chief – Fort Wayne, IN”

Write Clear, Concise Job Descriptions

Link Strategically (Internal + External)

Links are like signals to search engines—they tell Google that your post is connected and credible.

  • Add links to:

    • Your organization’s website

    • Social media pages (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

    • Relevant internal pages, like department overviews or faculty bios

    • YouTube videos showcasing your team or facility

  • Bonus: Backlinks (links from external, reputable sources to your job post) also improve SEO. Share your postings in newsletters, blogs, and news releases when appropriate.

Use Engaging Images and Videos

Images and video not only grab attention—they improve SEO and keep users on your page longer.

  • Include:

    • High-quality images of your facility, team, or surrounding area

    • Short videos of current physicians or leaders sharing their experience

  • Always use alt text on images to reinforce keywords and improve accessibility
