In Recruitment (and being recruited), Time is Not Your Friend
Physician Leaders: The Spring recruitment push may be starting early! PLC-Network.com had more CMO positions update as filled this week leading me to put together a few tips to help you be more competitive and not get left behind. Remember, in recruitment (and being recruited), Time is Not Your Friend.
❔ One big delay happens when you have questions needing answered before formally applying. Your secret weapon and best friend in this process is the organization’s recruiter. Don’t be shy. Connect with them and let them know you have questions and would like answers before applying. They will be invaluable in getting you what you need. (PLC-Network has a “Send Message” button on every job posting creating a direct connection to the designated Recruiter. It bypasses the formal application making it quick and easy to get your questions answered.)
📄 When was the last time you updated your CV? Update it now. Don’t wait until you find a position of interest and then have to update it under pressure. Take your time, make sure it is accurate and compelling, but do it. I’ve seen delays of weeks, even months while waiting on a current CV version.
✈ On-site Interviews are often tough to schedule given the the number of people involved. I would recommend you take the first date they have available. The longer you wait, the more candidates can enter the process creating even more competition and more delays. I would shoot for within 2 weeks of the invitation to interview. (Same goes for the phone interview)
There are a lot of moving parts to the recruitment process. It takes time but often doesn’t need to take the time I’ve seen, and experienced.
Think ahead, plan and make yourself available sooner as apposed to later. Do all you can from your side to keep the process moving… but without being too pushy, overbearing or even appearing to be desperate.
Next, we’ll take a look at the job offer process… Stay tuned!
